If you are looking for a unique, wild look, perhaps to compliment a Halloween costume or for a fancy dress party, you may want to consider crazy contact lenses. These are the lenses used in movies for special effects including red eyes for vampires or strange colored eyes for aliens. Crazy contact lenses are not designed for vision correction but only for a cosmetic effect that is used for fun and entertainment.

There are many different designs of crazy contact lenses including cat's eyes, zebra stripes, flags and a variety of lenses that change your eye color. Red, green, blue, white and black contact lenses are all available to give a dramatic look. These lenses are available without prescription but if you have never used contact lenses before it's a good idea to visit an optician to make sure you know how to use them correctly. They should not cause any discomfort or irritation but if this does occur stop wearing them and get your eyes checked by a qualified practitioner to be safe.

Even though you can buy crazy contact lenses without a prescription they still need to be looked after carefully in the same way you would look after regular, prescription lenses. You must wash your hands carefully before inserting the lenses and make sure you rinse off any soap as traces left on your hands can get into your eyes and cause stinging. They will also need cleaning and handling carefully. Read the instructions that come with the lenses and find out from your optician how to look after them properly. See How to Care for Contact Lenses for more information.

There are also some crazy contact lenses that incorporate vision correction if you need this and you should check with your optician for the availability of these. Halloween contacts are available with vision correction and are the most popular.

Crazy contact lenses are cheap and fun but should not be taken lightly. Looked after properly they are a safe way to give yourself a new, dramatic look but take care as your eyes are precious. Always remove them if you experience any discomfort or irritation. Inserted properly they are a great way to give a dramatic, finishing touch to your vampire, alien or animal costume.
