Automobiles through the Years

Cars, trucks, buses, campers, and motorbikes are all ways people travel but it has not always been that way. With the invention of revolutionary automobiles such as the Model T by Henry Ford, four wheel drive trucks, and two wheeled motorbikes, the world of the automobile was transformed. Thought at first as a fad, novelty, and whimsical indulgence many predicted the horseless carriage would soon fade into the past. Other novel inventions had come to light, made their mark, and then as a shooting star faded into obscurity. So why would this be any different. But different, important, and far reaching the car industry has indeed become.

The Model T was invented by a man who had enough courage to investigate other ways of manufacturing. Though it is easy to miss how open minded Henry Ford was to visit that meat packing plant, he was willing to think outside of the box and see how other industries were doing things. The assembly line method was tremendously eye opening for him. How each person did one part of the whole, instead of doing all of the steps, took the Model T from an upper class luxury to a car affordable by the middle class. Ideas are great, and seeing them turn into the reality of a prototype is also a huge mile stone, but making it affordable to a larger market with less income is not easy. This is similar to how the Singer Sewing Machine company implemented the idea of payment plans, allowing the masses to purchase them. By taking the Model T and applying the assembly line, Ford bridged the gap and made it possible for ordinary people to purchase them. Who is to say where the automotive industry would be today without his innovative thinking.

Trailer homes and pull behind campers are also an innovation that someone creative thought of that has become a huge industry. A young couple who couldn’t afford to stay in hotels hooked the first primitive camper, basically a box on wheels with a bed in it, behind their black car and towed it on a cross country trip for their honeymoon. Soon the idea grabbed America. Today the number of RV parks across the United States gives some idea of how many have been enthralled with the idea and convenience of taking a miniature home along with you. The savings in lodging and food are huge. Many RV parks provide electric hookup, sewage hookup, centrally located public bathrooms with showers and coin operated laundry machines. This allows someone to take care of things that a camper typically does not offer. For a mere $12 per night or about $30 per night for full hookups, someone can have the comfort of their own home off any major interstate.

Customizing a truck to pull a camper is not hard. An auto shop can install a hitch, wiring, and brakes needed to make any truck or car ready to pull a camper. Pick up truck campers require more installation. A harness has to be installed on the camper. Each truck is very different so a body shop or RV store has to know the make and model of the truck and also the model of the camper that someone is purchasing. Then, a truck harness is Community Brain Blog.
