Replacing Windshield Wipers
Written by DeMerchantIt is very important to have clear vision when driving. This is why just like having good tires and clean oil, using the best windshield wipers are just as essential. It is advised to replace wiper blades every 6 months to a year. If you already notice a difference in visibility though, don’t hesitate to have it replaced. There are some consumers who are not sure what type of wiper blade to get for their car. Here then are some useful windshield wipers buying tips.
Before you replace it, you should first be able to determine whether or not there is a need to change it. This can be done by taking a look at the rubber part of the wiper. If it is cracked or is starting to break, this is an indication that it is wearing off and you will have to replace it. There are environmental factors that can contribute to this including sand, dust, mud and exposure to the sun. Aside from these, salt from seaside areas and snow during winter can also weaker the frame of windshield wipers. While you may not notice any damage to the rubber, this is not an assurance that it does not need replacement. What you can do to make sure that it is working properly is by putting water on your windshield and turning the wiper blades on to see if it wipes it off right away.
If you think that you need to buy new windshield wipers, the first thing you should do is determine what kind of wipers to get. You can go to an auto parts store and ask what kind of wiper will work with your car’s model. Most wiper blades usually work with any model so you should not worry about not being able to find one for your car. You also have the option of buying it from an online retail store. However, you will have to do the research yourself. This should not be a problem though as there are a lot of articles online that will help you decide what brand of windshield wiper to buy for your car. It will come with a manual to help you in installing it.
Paying Off Your Car Loan
Written by Investor JimMany people make mistakes when choosing the best financing option to buy that car. With vigilant research there are a lot of websites on the Internet that you can look at that can easily compare interest rates and payment schemes right before your eyes. A credit union may have been best option for you back when you bought your first car, but that may not be the case today. Different financing institutions are constantly changing their rates and policies so it’s best that you try to keep updated on where to get the best car deals.
Here are a few suggestions to help you get started on acquiring a great deal on a car loan. Try not to be drawn into an offer on the basis of the interest rate alone. Look at down payment and monthly plans, if everything can easily be paid for in the long run. Some companies entice their clients with low interest rates with loans that can go on for more than fifteen years. By doing a simple computation in your head, you’ll be able to know whether or not that specific plan for you could easily rip you off after a couple of years. As a rule of thumb, it’s always advisable to take the shortest loan term available and foot the biggest amount for down payment you can afford. Before you walk into that car lot, know what your credit rating is so that no one can talk you into thinking it’s lower than what it actually is. Many salesmen use this trick to make you want to grab the first offer they give you because they claim that it’s the best offer you would be able to get with a low credit rating. By all means, avoid taking the dealer’s first offer. Unlike in house shopping, you’ll be surprised that car financing is more flexible to work with and that there is always an allowance for you to haggle. Never settle for sticker price.
At the end of the day, look for a financing plan that can enable you to payoff your car loan comfortable and without causing any financial strain on your finances. Don’t be afraid to shop around and look at all possible options. There’s a great deal waiting for you somewhere out there.
Snow Tires or All-Season Tires?
Written by KarenSnow tires fall in that category of items which you use for a couple of months, then you have to store for the rest of the year. Storage is a pain for so many of us, who are living in small apartments. However, no mater how small your place may be, if you live in a country where snow does fall and where temperatures go beyond the freezing point, you need winter tires and you’ll see why in this article.
What Makes Snow Tires Different From Regular Ones
Snow tires have a special tread pattern which is designed in such a manner that it helps biting into the snow, therefore offering a better grip in case of acceleration or brake. Such tires are made of a different type of rubber than all-season or summer tires. The rubber used in snow tires has the property to maintain its flexibility even at low temperatures, when common tires get brittle even if roads are clean with no ice or snow on them. A loose grip brings you nothing but trouble: whenever you stop the car you’ll find it difficult to get it moving again without getting it pushed by some other people. Moreover, the lack of grip will cause your car to slide on icy or snowy roads, will increase your fuel consumption and will lead to advanced wear of the clutch. Even if you didn’t care that your life was in danger, at least be aware that your wallet is in danger, so don’t be cheap and buy snow tires for the winter season if you want to use your car.
Why Not Use All-Season Tires In Winter?
It’s true that all-season means “to be used on any kind of weather or road conditions”. Of course you can use them, but they won’t perform as well as the tires that are built specifically for harsh road conditions like ice, snow or extremely low temperatures. Why do you think professional sport equipment is so expensive, yet best performers don’t spare their money and buy each and every new and improved item? That’s because it helps them perform. Only think of skating, for instance: there are skates made for artistic skating and skates made for speed skating. You can get a high skating speed with artistic skates, but you’ll be faster with speed skates.
Some drivers claim that it’s enough to put snow tires only on the drive wheels of the car. This is a mistake that may lead to many accidents, because there will be a very big difference between the grip on the drive wheels and the grip on the other wheels, thus making your car spin out much easier than in case of equal grip on all four wheels.
Another issue that’s very common amongst drivers: they tend to leave their winter tires on during summer time, thinking that they’d save money and still be safe. This is also wrong, because snow tires are exposed to a much faster wear when used at high temperature, on dry roads. So, if you keep them over summer, you may be in the situation to need to buy new ones in the beginning of next winter.
Good car tires are expensive. Storage is a pain, as four tires need a lot of space. Yet, if you can’t afford to drive a car in winter times, maybe you’d better not drive it rather than use all sort of improvisations that put your life at risk. While it’s true that it’s your life and you’re free to do what you want with it, but you put at risk also the life of other participants in traffic, who may have the bad luck to be in your way when you’ll have an accident because of not having snow tires.
