Dinner parties are terrifying for most people. After all, most of us have never thrown more than one or two in our entire culinary lifetimes, if ever. While it is true that there are many things that can potentially go wrong, the good news is that the vast majority of them can be nullified with a little simple planning. Whether you are planning a night of healthy cooking for your yoga class or spaghetti and fried catfish for your bowling team, there is no reason to think you can't throw a successful dinner party. To that end, here are a few tips to help make your dinner party a success.

Find Out About Allergies First Whenever you serve a group of five or more people, odds are that you will run into at least one food allergy, if not more. There is nothing worse than putting hours of work into creating a beautiful meal, only to find out at the last minute that one of your guests can't eat garlic or that the shrimp cocktail you prepared might send someone to the hospital.

The best way to avoid this is to contact every guest before you plan your meal to determine whether or not they have any food allergies or special preferences. Taking a few minutes to make the phone call may seem inconvenient, but you'll be grateful that you don't have to prepare a special meal at the last minute or have to stop the dinner party to call 9-1-1.

Cook Ahead Dinner parties are social occasions, so it goes without saying that most of your time should be spent socializing and spending time with your guests. You simply cannot do this if you spend all your time in the kitchen.

Now, since most of us don't have servants to do the work for us, the solution is to cook as much food ahead of time as possible and either reheat the dishes at service time or prepare dishes intended to be served cold. There are countless appetizers that go wonderfully from fridge to dining room, but good choices for main courses are stews and braises, since they generally don't require any last-minute prep or attention.

Cook More Than You Need Next, it is important that you cook more than you need. In the event that your guests are especially hungry or someone brings a last-minute guest, you need to make sure that there is still plenty of food to go around.

A good rule of thumb regarding this is to prepare three to five more portions of each dish than you have guests. Unless you are cooking for a very large group, this is usually enough to satisfy any requests for seconds and any unexpected guests without having to deal with a mountain of leftovers in the event that neither of these happen. Dealing with a few leftover chicken breasts is a small price to pay compared to the prospect of running out of food.

If You Expect Your Guests To Bring Something, Tell Them Now, you may be throwing a pot luck or other occasion where guests are expected to bring something, whether it is a bottle of wine, a side dish, a loaf of bread, or anything else. In order to avoid embarrassment on everybody's parts, if you need someone to bring something to your dinner party, you absolutely have to spell it out up front. This avoids any confusion and ensures that people who have not attended this sort of occasion know what is expected of them.

Throwing a dinner party can be a terrifying prospect, especially if it is your first time or if you are cooking for more people than you are accustomed. Just take a deep breath, plan ahead as much as you can, and address any potential problems well ahead of the date and you will have little to worry about.

Charcoal grills have been popular for many years. This type of grill is often placed in the backyard, by the pool or whenever having barbecue parties. There are a lot of people who prefer to use it at home because it is able to cook flavorful food. You can grill, smoke or roast meat and fish and cook vegetables on your charcoal grill. However, not everyone grills food to perfection but only because they are not using it properly. This is true even if they are using the best charcoal grills in the market. Regardless of the brand and model that you are using, it is important to know the basics of proper grilling. Here are some of the most useful tips in using charcoal grills.

Before you start using your grill, take time to read and understand the manual that your charcoal grill comes with. With regard to where your grill should be placed, keep it away from your home or other buildings in your home property as well as trees and anything else that may catch fire. Obviously, you should not place the grill inside your home as the fumes that it produces can be harmful. You should also make sure that each part of your grill fits perfectly.

It is ideal to find out more about the features of charcoal grills. One of the things that you should definitely understand is the grill’s optimum temperature as cooking time for each type of food will depend on this. As a rule, both chicken and pork are grilled on medium to high heat, fish is cooked on low to medium heat and steaks cook best on a hot grill.

You will not be able to use this type of grill without placing enough amounts of charcoal. The amount of the charcoal depends on the length of time you will grill food on it. If you will be grilling for a lot of people, make sure you have bags of charcoal ready.

People who have tried grilling before know that it is a must to oil the grill before placing food on it. This is to make sure that the food does not stick to the grill. There are charcoal grills that don’t have lids but this should not be a problem as you can instead cover it with aluminum foil as necessary. Although it may take time, practice will definitely help perfect your grilling techniques.

Some even lick their spoons after spreading a whole glob of peanut butter on a slice of bread. Maple syrup is no exception from the favorites. A lot of people cannot imagine pancakes or waffles without butter and maple syrup. It definitely places as one of the top in the country.  As a matter of fact, the United States is the biggest consumer of maple syrup in the entire planet. So who says that Americans don’t have sweet teeth and do not like maple syrup? The statistics says it all. To add some more fact into the matter, all forms of the sweetener is well-appreciated by many especially maple butter. This is a thick substance that you can spread on bread or biscuits like jam.

Maple butter is made the same was as maple syrup is made. Maple sap is boiled until it is a thick and spreadable substance similar to butter. That’s why it was called maple butter in the first place. It is something that kids would love on their pancakes. You can have it as substitutes for your jams as well. It is best eaten with bread products like biscuits, pancakes, waffles and just about anywhere you would like to spread some maple loving on. There is some cream added to the mixture to lessen the sweetness and make it have a richer taste. If you don’t boil the syrup enough, the mixture does not turn into butter but into some sort of candy coating that you could use. In fact, they enjoy it so much that they make their own and send it as gifts for their friends. And they surely get big hugs and hearty reviews.
