Symptoms of liver problems are easy to detect from the incipient stage of liver diseases if you pay attention to how you feel and to physical changes which may not hurt, but which are nothing but alarm signals that something is going wrong with your liver. You should know that liver illnesses can be inherited or can be caused by various chemicals. Many times, severe liver damage is caused by alcohol ingestion, that's why you should avoid alcohol and especially spirits in case you suspect something may be wrong with your health.
This article aims at describing a few of the most encountered liver illness symptoms, but please, if you read it, don’t start to feel ill. You’d better visit a doctor if you suspect something is going wrong with your body. Internet can’t serve as a doctor and it never will. However, maybe I’ll manage to trigger an alarm for some of you to have a health check.
Jaundice
Jaundice is not a condition in itself, but rather a symptom of various liver conditions. It translates into the skin and the sclera turning yellow. If you didn’t know that already, the sclera is the white of the eye. It the white turns to yellow, it means you’re suffering from liver problems, so go to see your doctor immediately, even if nothing hurts yet. Acute hepatitis leaves no sequels if early diagnosed and properly treated. If neglected, it may evolve into cirrhosis, which means that the healthy liver tissue is replaced with scar tissue, thus preventing the liver to peform its duties in the body. Cirrhosis is not curable and it's lethal, so you'd better make sure you don't get there.
Darkened urine
If you’re one of those who never look inside the toilet bowl when they urinate, then find out that you should. The best analogy you can do is with beer: if your urine looks like blonde, filtered beer than it’s OK. If it starts to look like dark beer, then you’ve got liver problems. If it looks like unfiltered beer (also known as Weiss beer) then something must be wrong with your kidneys or urinary bladder.
Light colored stools
You may already think I’ve got an obsession with watching residues in the toilet. Think what you like, but look at it after you’ve made it, because the sooner you find out you’re ill, the more chances you have to get cured.
Abdominal pains in the right-upper part of your belly
That’s where the liver sits inside the human body: the right-upper part of the abdomen. If it hurts, it means it’s suffering. A doctor will know immediately if it's something wrong with the liver or not, because in such cases the liver is usually swollen. You can't tell the difference, but doctors do.
Fatigue
If you’re always feeling tired, you could suspect live problems. Even if you are aware you aren’t having enough rest, you could still pay a visit to your physician, to see if your liver is OK. It’s better to be safe than sorry, so don’t hesitate too much on that.
Nausea or vomiting
These are symptoms of many conditions, but if you’re sure you aren’t pregnant, then you can start suspecting liver problems. The symptoms list could go on, but these are the most visible ones and they shouldn’t be ignored if they show up.
