cardio_exercise.jpgOne of the best and easiest ways to keep your body healthy is through home cardio training. This type of training is designed to increase the heart rate to around 80% of your maximum heart rate and to work the large muscle groups in an uninterrupted and regular manner.

Some different types of home cardio exercising include jogging, fast walking, cycling and aerobics. You can also go swimming at your local pool. Cardio training is also considered an aerobic exercise and is easy to do at home without any special equipment.

How will you benefit from home cardio exercise?

1) You will have more energy. With regular cardio training your energy level and endurance will improve considerably as your metabolism is increased during your workout and maintained for some time afterwards..

2) Cardio training is good for maintaining a healthy heart and lungs. Increasing the heart rate during your training will allow your heart to pump more blood with fewer heart beats so more oxygen will be delivered to your lungs. This can help to reduce the likely hood of heart disease and help to reduce the level of cholesterol in your blood.

3) With regular cardio exercise you will have more control over your weight as you will burn more calories both during your training and afterwards.

4) Aerobic exercise is believed to help boost the immune system so you will be less susceptible to virus and bacterial illnesses.

5) Although strength training is needed to increase muscle mass you can improve the benefits of this with regular cardio exercise. A combination of strength and cardio training is ideal for increasing and toning your muscles. Interval training, where you alternate between cardio and strength training during your workout, is perfect as you will work the muscles, allow them to relax while cardio training then work on them again. In this way you get the benefits of both types of exercise.

6) An added bonus of cardio training is that it will make you feel good! This is not just because you know you're doing something good for your body but because during cardio training you'll be releasing those 'feel good' endorphins.

How often should you cardio train?

A good minimum to aim for is thirty minutes three times a week. This has been shown to be the minimum required to achieve all the benefits listed above. It is not a good idea to go above 45 minutes, especially when starting to exercise as you will only exhaust yourself. Gradually build up to longer and more frequent exercising. The important thing is that you get started. You can start by simply walking, jogging or cycling around your neighborhood, eating healthily and making sure you get enough sleep. Once you are making home cardio exercise part of your daily life you can start to increase the intensity and duration.
