Supplements and Vitamins (6)

In order to live a healthy lifestyle you need to make sure you take adequate amounts of vitamins and minerals.  People who don't get enough can suffer a whole host of different illnesses.  Some people are so worried about the lack of vitamins and minerals in their diet that they take supplements.  It's still debatable whether they do any good, however it's still good to learn as much as you can.

Ever since scientists noticed that specific herbs could be used to improve the rate of weight loss during a fat loss diet, the markets have been filled with different weight lossp ills. The amount of supplements available these days is not even possible to count, and for that reason alone, it is important to remember that not all of them are created equal.

Besides just the specific coumpound used in the supplement, there are a lot more things that need to be taken in to account for optimal results. You also need to think about the type of supplement that you need, and that can be the most difficult task in the process. There are weight loss pills that work for women, and there are also supplements that are more efficient for men, and this all depends on the way they give you the advantage.

There is also quite a big difference whether the woman is pre-menopausal, menopausal, or post menopausal. The hormones in a womans body change in such radical ways, that after meopause, women usually get the best advantage off supplements which are effective for men - but this isn't always the case.

Since women have a higher estrogen content in their body than men, they usually benefit from supplements which help control this hormone. Even men are more often than not, overly estrogenized especially if they are overweight. Since we get xenoestrogens from our environment to such a large degree, a woman can have estrogen mimicking compounds in their system to a very large degree - the continuously increasing use of cosmetics doesn't make this situation any better.

That is why almost all women will find that the weight loss pills that work for them, are supplements that help them detoxify estrogens. Some supplements like this would be fiber supplements, green tea extracts, broccoli extracts, calcium-d-glucarate and the like. Basically anything that can help the liver boost the phase 1 and phase 2 detoxification. Fiber supplements work because they help bind the excreted estrogens and prevent them from being reabsorbed.

Another good way to help a woman lose weight is to reduce the insulin load of their meals. This can be achieved with a carb blocker, that prevents some of the carbohydrates of the meal from being absorbed. This will reduce the increase in blood glucose, which will eventually help them improve their insulin sensitivity. This is also why eating many small meals during the day works better than eating just a few big ones.

What I would not recommend to use are fat binding supplements, as many of us are already eating low fat diets these days. You want the healthy fats to be absorbed by the body, instead of binding them. If you use fish oil, vitamin d, or other healthy fat soluable vitamins, you should not be using fat binders as they will also bind some of these compounds, and deny you the health benefits.

All in all, you can get help from almost all the weight loss pills for women out there, but if you want to achieve a healthy body, and make it as easy as possible, you should carefully consider which supplements you choose to use.

It can be quite difficult to keep up with all the new herbal supplements that are becoming popular. Resveratrol is one of those herbal supplements that only took a very short time to rise from obscurity to popularity. But does it deserve that popularity? Is resveratrol a miracle supplement, and where does it come from?

Part of why resveratrol has been given so much attention is that it functions as an antioxidant. Normal metabolic activities in the body result in a particular type of particle known as a free radical. There are also free radicals in the environment, and can enter the body through food or some kinds of pollutants. It can take years and years for the accumulated damage done by free radicals takes an obvious form, one of the most malignant believed to be cancer. And since this process is faster when there are more free radicals present, it makes sense to try to reduce them.

And reducing them involves the use of antioxidants, which are beneficial primarily for their free radical-neutralizing powers. You are probably wondering what resveratrol has to do with any of this. Resveretrol is a naturally occurring antioxidant found in red wine that many people believe is the reason that red wine contains so many health benefits.

The range of conditions that are believed to be improved by taking resveratrol is fairly wide. From improving cardiovascular and kidney function to improving overall energy levels and joint pain to even allowing people to sleep better, the range is indeed quite wide. Since the only way to know for sure whether or not any of these benefits are real or not is to subject them to a series of experiments, the next step would be to take resveratrol into a lab and start running tests.

The current tests involving resveratrol use involve giving it to animals to see how they respond. Most of those studies are still quite early along, but the preliminary results have shown some promise. The main physical effect of resveratrol on laboratory mice so far seems to be a rise in oxygen levels in both the mitochondria and in the muscle tissue itself. The second physical effect observed was the stimulation of enzyme and protein production, which naturally gets lower and lower as we age. Scientists are so far speculating that these increases in production may help to reduce the effects of aging on the body and may play a role in the prevention of some degenerative disorders. There was even an increase in longevity observed during one study between a resveratrol-taking group of mice and a control group. Although there is a great deal of reason to be optimistic, scientists will need to do a great deal more research before anything is proven.

Most of the time, you will be able to find a number of different formulations to choose from. For example, Jarrow Formulas Resveratrol comes in no less than three variations.

Probiotics are comprised of live microorganisms that when introduced to the gut are thought to provide health benefits by restoring the natural balance of healthy. The word is Greek and translates as ‘pro life.’ It is the opposite of the term antibiotic.

Most probiotics contain bacteria that are form part of a healthy diet including Lactobacillus, Acidophilus and Bifidobacillus strains. Probiotics have been linked to a wide range of health benefits and the management of certain disease. Here are some examples:

  1. Probiotics have been shown to reduce the severity of infection diarrhea and shorten the length of time the infection persists.
  2. Probiotic therapy may also help people with Crohn’s disease and irritable bowel syndrome.
  3. Probiotics have been linked to improvements in unitary tract infections.
  4. Sufferers of yeast infections have reported a reduction in the negative sysmtoms of Candida after a course of probiotics.
  5. Probioptics may have a postive role to play in the prevention of colon cancers.
  6. Probiotics can help people who suffer from lactose intolerance.
  7. More generally, aid digestion and nutrient absorption, and contribute to immune function.

Probiotics are found in many fermented foods including yogurt and soy sauce. They are also a commonly taken as a dietary supplement. The best probiotic supplement brands provide detailed information on the type of bacterial strain and its concentration - which is normally measured as (millions of) colony forming units. Probiotics are available freeze dried in powder form or in liquid form. The best delivery method for liquid probiotic supplements is via an enteric capsule designed with a special coasting that is not damaged by gastric acids in the stomach. Check for the expiry date before purchasing any product as cell counts are known to fall drastically after a period of time.

"Does CoQ10 have any potentially dangerous side effects?" is the first and most important question that you should consider before taking CoQ10.  Some people may find it a waste of time, but it's still an important question to ask.  You wouldn't start taking a new drug without learning anything about it, so keep in mind that nutritional supplements are also medicine and should be researched ahead of time.  Before you start any new medication or supplement, learning about the possible side-effects and drug interactions is one of the most important parts of preparing.

It usually takes very high doses of CoQ10 before most people start reporting the development of side-effects.  And since most people who are taking CoQ10 for health reasons will be taking much lower doses than those that are commonly associated with such side effects, you are unlikely to notice much if you are not involved in some sort of research that requires you to take a very high dose.  In research studies involving high doses of CoQ10, usually in excess of 1000 mg, the subjects who develop side effects tend to suffer from mild rashes, irritability, and stomach pain.  Unless you are actually involved in one of these studies, you will never end up taking a dose this high.  That does not mean that there are no side effects when you are taking lower doses, though, such as insomnia, fatigue, or heartburn.

If you are taking any other medications, it is important that you find out whether or not they are going to interact with CoQ10 at all before you start taking it.  The problem with adding another drug to your treatment is that it might interact with another drug that you are already taking.  Some medications can potentially do damage to the body, such as some forms of beta blockers and chemotherapy medications.  Taking CoQ10 along with these drugs help to protect your heart from the damage they can do.  Blood thinners provide another example as a potential interaction; when CoQ10 is taken at the same time as blood thinners, the effectiveness of the blood thinners is significantly reduced.  Before you do anything that can potentially have a serious effect on your health or body, be sure that you have a long talk with your doctor about what to expect.

CoQ10 supplements, according to current research, have very few side effects, and the side effects that they do have are very mild.  The risk of drug interactions means that you need to be sure to discuss CoQ10 with your doctor before you actually start taking it.  Still, the potential ways that CoQ10 benefits people who have high blood pressure make that consultation more than worth it, as CoQ10 is one of the worst kept health secrets that too few people know about..

Weight loss supplements may not be considered miracle drugs for those seeking to have fitter bodies but experts agree that there are weight loss supplements that can aid dieters in their quest for better curves and muscles. One of the most effective weight loss supplements in the market today is green tea supplements. Green tea, which is referred to scientifically as Camellia sinensis, is a kind of plant that was first cultured by the Ancient Chinese as a treatment for headaches, stomachaches, and depression. Recently, it has been established by experts that green tea has the ability to prevent and cure cancer and other major health conditions.

The value of green tea extends beyond medicinal purposes. It has been discovered that green tea possesses characteristics that can be used as great organic substitute to weight loss supplements. Today, many weight loss supplements have green tea extracts as one of their active ingredients. The antioxidants found in green tea encourage energy expenditure in a person’s body. It is because of this property that it was deduced that green tea supplements can be an excellent weight loss partner. Coupled with the proper diet and active lifestyle, drinking green tea supplements can effectively shed off pounds.

Green tea supplements for weight loss have caffeine and EGCG. Epigallocatechin Gallate or EGCG is a kind of chemical that when it gets contact with caffeine, it triggers faster metabolism rate in a person’s system. The EGCG in green tea also causes the hormone noradrenaline to be distributed throughout the body. Noradrenaline is an appetite-suppressant hormone. Green tea supplements meant to aid weight loss have the ability to increase your metabolic rate, making fat and calorie burning activities in your body faster. Because the fats are burned at a faster rate, they become the source of your body’s energy. This means, the more active you get, the more fat you spend.

A recent study has proved that people who regularly drink green tea as a means to lose weight typically lose 2.5 pounds every month. Green tea supplements usually come in tablet and capsule forms. If you want to achieve better effects, pick green tea supplements for weight loss that has 90mg of EGCG and 50mg of caffeine. It is ideal to take these supplements three times a day, just before you eat your regular meals. A word of caution though, even if these supplements are derived from natural ingredients it is still very important to consult your doctor about it. Anything that involves your health should not be taken lightly because you might pay for it dearly in the future.

For the bodybuilder who does regular workouts and takes them seriously, it is important to also look for the best pre workout supplement to take. Taking a pre workout supplement has just been recently discovered as a helpful part of the workout. There are several different brands of these types of supplements to consider.

Many of the supplements used to contain caffeine, amino acids and glutamine. These ingredients are still used in today's supplements in addition to other ingredients. Anything used in the pre workout supplement is used to help the bodybuilder with his endurance and muscle strength. The supplements are used to prepare for the weightlifting workout.

A good pre workout supplement should contain the ingredient called ribose. This ingredient can be used in a pre workout shake and it delivers nutrients while being anti-catabolic and anabolic to help the bodybuilder achieve the lean body mass. It is also a great source of energy that enhances performance. Another good pre workout supplement should contain protein and carbohydrates to help reduce breakdown of protein, which can happen without the pre workout supplement. A good nutritious well-balanced food diet should also be taken regularly besides using the pre workout supplement.

Taking an oral amino acid-carbohydrate supplement before a workout will increase the protein synthesis in the body which is the goal of every bodybuilder. Tests were done that have shown this happens better when taken as a pre workout supplement instead of a post workout supplement. By drinking the amino acids in the pre workout drink, the muscle tissue is not broken down during a workout. This is important to the bodybuilder as he wants to keep the muscles growing.

It is still necessary to drink or eat something right after the workout, however, it is being proven that the pre workout supplement drinks actually are better for the muscles than the post workout supplements.

The perfect pre workout supplement in drink form would contain 35 grams of carbohydrates, 6 grams of amino acids, which are at least 10 grams of a protein such as whey protein. If the bodybuilder would rather not take the pre workout supplement, he can drink fat-free chocolate milk as an alternative. This will provide him with 30 grams of carbohydrates and 10 grams of protein.

Whichever brand the bodybuilder chooses to purchase, he should check all of the ingredients before choosing his best pre workout supplement.
