Want to Ski in France? Try Meribel or La Tania

It can be a thankless task when trying to plan a skiing trip for you and your family or friends, and it can be hard to get everyone to agree on the same thing. Therefore everyone's needs need paying attention to, especially when you mean to travel to somewhere like Meribel, France for a luxurious ski vacation. It is easier to narrow down your choices since there is an abundance of Ski chalets in Meribel in the area. You can take your pick from the many luxurious chalets, as well as a variety of affordable hotels and other lodgings. The chalets themselves can sleep anywhere from two people to sixteen or more, so just make sure that you book one that is appropriately sized for you and your companions. The town itself is part of the largest linked skiing area in the world, situated in the Trois Valees ski domain. There are quite a few excellent value restaurants and bars in La Tania where you and your companions can relax after a full day of skiing and discovering the valleys. La Tania chalets offer a better value for vacationers and you can at least expect the same variety in the choices of accommodations that are available. For those who enjoy exploring the local ski culture, it is also quite accessible to other nearby villages.

Chalets are much more relaxed and laid-back accommodations, unlike your typical hotel room, and have a subtle elegance that one would normally expect from winter vacation homes. One will typically find chalets in Meribel to be similar to cottages and lodgings in the Alpine regions that re furnished simply with heavy upholstered furniture made from oak, pine, and other white-washed woods. If you prefer accommodations that have a home away from home experience, you can choose a self-catered chalet, or if you prefer something more grand, there are also many luxurious, fully catered chalets to choose from.

Fun Things to Do In Glasgow

When visiting Europe, one of the most lively and vibrant destinations is Glasgow, Scotland, a must see on a travel itinerary.

Located on the River Clyde, Glasgow is a financial center and one of the most livable cities in Europe, and is ranked by Lonely Planet as one of the top ten tourist destinations. Outstanding Victorian architecture, a diverse collection of museums and art, cosmopolitan shopping areas, and fantastic restaurants make Glasgow a city that will give the visitor days of fun, as well as culture. Glasgow deals abound for the visitor who is on a budget vacation. Some of the highlights of a visit might include the following:

Architecture- known for its Victorian architecture, Glasgow was rebuilt in the 19th century and most of the buildings date from that period. However, there are two churches from the medieval period, Provand's Lordship and
St. Mungo's Cathedral. Glasgow was home to the Glasgow School of architecture and many of the buildings are built by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, an architect who was involved in the Arts and Crafts movement and Art Noveau in Europe. Among the buildings Mackintosh designed are The Glasgow School of Art, Scotland Street School Museum and the Willow Tearooms. A place to visit, also, is the church Mackintosh designed, Queens Cross Church. A modern building to see on your achitecture tour is the "Armadillo", Lord Foster's Clyde Auditorium.

Museums- Glasgow has a variety of great museums: Among them are the Museum of Transport, the People's Palace and Winter Gardens, the Glasgow Science Center and Tower, and The Lighthouse. The People's Palace and Winter Gardens is a museum that features the social history of the city from 1750 to modern times. With one of the richest and diverse collections in Europe, Glasgow is home to thirteen museums.

Shopping- Outside of London, Glasgow is known as one of the best shopping areas in Europe. Buchanan Street, Argyle Street, and Sauchiehall Street are located in the heart of the city and should on any visitor's list. The Merchant City area hosts a wealth of bookshops, antiques and second hand clothing stores.

Art- Among the highlights on an art tour of Glasgow would be The Burrell Collection, with works from many periods of art, the Gallery of Modern Art, Kelvington Grove Art Gallery, and the Lighthouse, a national center for architecture and design.

Restaurants- Glasgow hosts an abundance of fine restaurants, with a range of tasty dishes that include Scottish, Seafood, British Style, Chinese, French, Italian, Indian and Turkish. Glasgow restaurant vouchers are available to make a dining experience fit within a budget.

London is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe. There are enough activities to keep a visitor busy for weeks, whether that visitors interest is cultural, historical, theatrical, or primarily focused on shopping.

Despite its reputation as a very expensive city, It is possible to find many London deals. Hotels often book deals in advance, and there are many dealers who trade in discounted theater tickets.

History and Architecture.

History buffs and the architecturally inclined will certainly enjoy savoring London's famous landmarks. The walk from Buckingham Palace to the houses of Parliament takes about an hour and provides many photo opportunities, including Trafalgar Square, Whitehall, 10 Downing Street (the Prime Minister's residence), Westminster Abby, and of course, Big Ben.

Cuisine Options for all Tastes.

British cuisine has come a very long way from its admittedly horrid condition 20 years ago. Today there examples of cuisine from every corner of the earth. Of course, no visit to London is complete for any fashionista without a pilgrimage to the shopping mecca of Harrods. Carrying everything from seafood to handbags to lingerie, of the finest quality. Dont expect such quality to come without a quality price tag, though.

A Night at the Theater.

Going to the theater offers the visitor a quintessentially British evening. Most people go the the theater at least once a month in London, which is a mecca for actors, producers, and theatergoers alike. The performances are usually of very high quality, especially in the west end, and novice theatergoers are often surprised to see famous movie stars in leading roles onstage.

So make sure to take full advantage of your time in London to fulfill all your photo opps, shopping, and sightseeing, and do try to fit in a properly British experience or two.

Searching For The "Big Five" At Kruger National Park

When I arrived in South Africa, my thoughts quickly turned the wildlife. Having grown up in the United States on a steady diet of the Discovery Channel, I knew I my first trip to Africa wouldn't be complete without seeing some African wildlife. And not just any wildlife, I wanted to see the so called "big five," that is, a lion, an African elephant, a Cape Buffalo, a leopard and a rhinoceros. To fufill this goal, I decided to head to Kruger National Park, one of the largest parks in the world.

As I set out to plan my three weekend trip to Kruger (this was a business trip, so time was limited), I began to hear that my dream of seeing all of the big five in such a short timespan was a bit optimistic. I was told stories by people who had visited for weeks at a time, many years in a row without seeing all of the big five. The missing animal was usually the leopard. To expect to see all of the big five in two days of viewing was simply not likely, I was told.

Slightly saddened, but still excited, I set out early on a Friday morning from Pretoria to get to Kruger by mid afternoon. After an amazingly scenic, twisty mountain drive, I arrived at the gate for the park. Excited to get going, I immediately began scanning for wild life. For a while, I saw nothing but dead brush (this was at the end of winter). Then, suddenly, a giraffe appeared from behind a ridge!

My first real, live, big African animal! A childhood dreamed fulfilled! Not one of the big five, but I was beginning to become more optimistic. As I was driving down the road, looking for more animals, an oncoming safari jeep flashed it;s headlights at me and rolled down the windows. I pulled up alongside it.

Man In Jeep: Would you like to see a leopard?

Me, freaking out inside: Yes, I would.

Man In Jeep: Go down the road, turn left, and travel for 1,700 meters. There is will be one near the right side of the road.

Me: Thanks!

Now absurdly giddy with anticipation, I drive off down the road, watching my odometer carefully. Sure enough, 1,700 meters after the fork, I see this amazing creature:

Now I'm officially thrilled. After hearing all the stories of people never having seen a leopard after years of trying, I see one my first few hours in the park! Quite an amazing feeling I must say. On the way to my rest camp, I come across the first of many elephants I would see during the weekend. Nothing says "Africa" to me like an elephant, so this was also an exciting site for me. At this point, I've reverted to my childhood self who used to sit on the couch and read National Geographic all day. Being there and seeing these animals was truly a dream come true.

Later in the evening, after settling into my rest camp hut, I join an evening game drive. Happy to be able to focus on wildlife spotting rather than driving, I immediately start scanning around. Not too much later, someone in our groups spots a white rhino:

Three down, two to go! As night began to fall, it became harder to see animals on the drive. We were using little spot lights, but weren't seeing much until...

Four out of the big five in one night! I realized I had had quite a fortunate wildlife viewing experience for one day. Still, I was feeling slightly disappointed that I hadn't see the Cape Buffalo yet. Still, tomorrow was yet another game drive. I went to sleep in my rest camp, and dreamed of what I would see the next day.

I went all the next day without seeing a buffalo. I saw many other amazing animals, and enjoyed myself greatly. Still, the completist me wanted desperately to see this last member of the big five. That evening, I grilled a steak outside, drank beer, and looked up at the amazing bright southern sky before spending my last night in Kruger.

The next day, I awoke early for a morning game drive. I got to see an amazing sunrise, and quite a large number of interesting birds. We pulled in close to a tree to get a closer look at an eagle, when we heard a rustling sound in the brush. I pulled my camera up to my face just in time to catch this bounding from the bush:

At last, the illusive Cape Buffalo! My big five quest was complete. As I drove home, I was thinking how fortunate I really was to see all I saw. I hope to return to Kruger someday and spend some more time. I can highly recommend it as a destination for anyone visiting South Africa. I spent very little for the weekend, and had one of the best times of my life. If you choose to visit one day, I'm sure you will too.

Top Holiday Destinations

All over the world there are many great places to visit. Some people have dreamed about some day visiting the Mediterranean, while others would love to see the orient. With so many different people and so many potential hotspots around the world, how do you know which one to pick? Well many people simply find the top holiday destinations and go to one. However, more thought should be put in to traveling abroad.

For example, if you have dreamed about vacationing in the Mediterranean, instead of going to the more expensive destinations in the region, why not visit the more affordable ones which still offer the same amount of culture and heritage. There are many great, yet highly affordable Mediterranean destinations.

Of course the same can also be said about top holiday destinations in the Orient. For the most part, the countries in the Orient are third world which means they are not very expensive places to visit. Do not settle for Hong Kong when you can go to Thailand, Cambodia or many of the other destinations which are rich in history, culture and heritage.

Turkey offers some outstanding prices as well as unique one of a kind vacation adventures. From ballooning over the Cappadocian Moonscape to eating the local cuisine in one of the outdoor bazaars, you won’t soon forget this relatively undiscovered exotic vacation destination.

Don’t count Costa Rica out as a holiday destination either. Just because it has been on the lists of top holidays for many years doesn’t mean this region has lost its charm or beauty. The hot springs at Tabacon which are fed by the geothermal heat produced around the Arenal volcano are unlike any other. A true wonderland of beauty and nature.

With so many regions one would want to visit some day, there are just as many possibilities with regards to affordable locations in the region to choose from. In the end, you can have a very enjoyable and relaxing vacation just about anywhere in the world. When you take the time to plan out your vacation far in advanced, you will find that visiting just about any of the top holiday destinations world wide can be extremely affordable for just about anyone or any budget.

So this time around, do not simply sit at home when you are on holiday, but instead choose to travel the world and see the sites that one cannot find around their home.

Spain is a beautiful place at all times of year. Featuring beautiful country side, stunning coastlines, amazing mountains, and entrancing culture, it is one of the premier destinations in the world. The largest of the Spanish islands located in the Mediterranean Sea is that of Majorca which has been a destination hotspot for well over half a century. There is also plenty of history in the region which keeps people coming back for more every single time. Thousands of years of landmarks, buildings, and beautiful richness make up the tapestry of this region. The earliest settlements can be traced back to more then ten thousand years ago. But it is not the history that most people are after; rather it is the fun under the Mediterranean sun.

This year rather then sitting at home and allowing yourself to be completely bored, choose to take a Majorca holiday instead. Majorca holidays come in many different shapes and sizes which can be either very expensive or even extremely affordable. Visit the Serra de Tramuntana. This literally means mountains of the northern wind. These mountains run almost through the entire region of Majorca and span almost 88 kilometers. Beautiful scenery, pine forests, rosemary fields, and sheep pasturing in the fresh air will greet the casual hiker as they enjoy the fresh scenery.

Coves del Drac or the Dragons Caves is located in the Southern part of Porto Cristo. These caves are a major tourist attraction and are open all year round for guided tours through the beautiful underworld of Majorca. Lake Martel is just a stones throw away, and a pleasant boat ride in the sunset will cap off a wonderful Majorca holiday.

Paphos in Cyprus - a Travel Guide

If you're looking for holiday that combines sandy beaches and turquoise blue seas with interesting historical and archaeological treasures and plenty of night life you may want to consider Paphos for your next vacation. Paphos is located in the South West of the beautiful island of Cyprus which has a long, fascinating history. Paphos is closely associated with the Greek goddess of love Aphrodite, who was said to have been born of the ocean foam close by. Paphos is so rich in archaeological treasures and historical interest that it has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO.

Paphos itself is made up of two districts, the town itself called Kato Paphos and the beach and hotel area called Pano Paphos. Pano Paphos has a famous promenade running alongside the beach, very popular with both holidaymakers and locals as a place to stroll on a warm summer's evening. There are a wealth of places to visit including The District Archaeological Museum where you can see antiquities found in the surrounding area, Byzantine Museum and the ancient Odeon Theatre.

The Tomb of the Kings

The remains of the Roman market place (the Agora) is another interesting site and you can also see a building that was dedicated to Asclepius, the Greek god of healing and medicine. It is from the snake entwined staff of Asclepius that the modern symbol for medicine is derived.

Visit the ruins of a Roman villa to see the famous, remarkably preserved floor mosaics from around the fourth century, depicting beautiful mythological scenes. Underground catacombs, used by the early Christians, and the extensive Tomb of the Kings are also fascinating to visit. The Tomb of the Kings, named for its wealth of decoration not its occupants, features below ground Doric columns and wall friezes.

Venturing further from Paphos into the surrounding hills you will come across a quieter way of life unchanged for centuries where crafts are still pursued as they were in the past. Silver smithing, weaving and lace making are all still pursued here and you can buy exquisite examples to take home as a souvenir.

Paphos Castle

The most famous myth involving Paphos recounts the story of the Greek Goddess Aphrodite's birth in the ocean close by. She was born of the ocean foam and carried to the land on a scallop shell, gently blown by the breezes of the Zephyrs until she came to land at the rock known as Petra tou Romiou. You will see the image of Aphrodite all over Paphos!

The climate in Paphos is pleasant throughout the year with warm summers, with low humidity and mild winters. Paphos enjoys at least 340 days of sunshine a year. It is also close to mountains which have a cooler climate and which are usually snow topped in the winter months. A popular activity in the winter is cycling or walking in the mountains.
